CULTURE
  1. 1662-06-XX: Catarina de Bragança, Queen of England, Scotland and Ireland from 1662 to 1685 and wife to King Charles II, introduces in the British Court the tea drinking habit (both in the morning and afternoon) already customary with the Portuguese nobility of the time.

ECONOMY
  1. 2014-10-30: Bambuparque is the biggest bamboo nursery in Europe, probably the world.
  2. 2014-09-19: Louropel, a company in Vila Nova de Famalicão, produces 12 Million clothing buttons a day, based on coffee waste, for clients such as Giorgio Armani and Hugo Boss.

FAMOUS PEOPLE
  1. 1777-XX-XX: Peter Francisco, notorious American patriot and soldier in the American Revolutionary War, a.k.a. Virginia Giant, Giant of the Revolution and Virginia Hercules, of whom General George Washington is reputed to have said: "Without him we would have lost two crucial battles, perhaps the War, and with it our freedom." was actually born in Azores and helped with his Portuguese blood the Revolution.

FOOD
  1. 2013-XX-XX: Portugal is one of the countries recognized and known for the Mediterranean Diet, accepted in Unesco's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

MUSIC
  1. 2014-11-27: Cante Alentejano, polyphonic singing from Alentejo region, accepted in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
  2. 2014-11-19: Carlos do Carmo receives a Lifetime Achievement Grammy.
  3. 2011-XX-XX: Fado, urban popular song of Portugal, accepted in the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
  4. 1878-XX-XX: The hawaian instrument Ukulele is created after the portuguese sailors introduced the Braguinha (belonging to the instrument family of which other similar items are also part, such as the Cavaquinho and the Fajão).

  1. 2015-01-29: A team from Minho's University creates a technology allowing to extract kidney stones in one of two minutes without the use of radiation afterwards.
  2. 2014-11-06: Joana Gaspar, researcher from APDP, received an award from the Diabetes International Federation for her work in helping to revert Diabetes Type 2 disease at the beginning stages
  3. 2014-10-07: Quarkson, a portuguese company in Barreiro, begins work in flying platforms to take internet access to all people.
  4. 2014-09-30: João Ramalho-Santos, from FCTUC (Coimbra University) awarded researcher of the Year by the Frontiers in Reproduction (FIR) program of the Marine Biology Laboratory, Massachusetts, EUA.
  5. 2014-09-19: FLAD Life Science Award 2020 allocates 800,000 euros for scientific projects; Hélder Maiato is one of the granted researchers, regarding the work on cromossome navigation system in celular division and Huntington's neurodegenerative disease.
